In the current educational landscape, open education resources provide a way to mitigate the rising costs of course materials, reimagine traditional pedagogical approaches, and improve student retention and success. This interactive workshop will offer specific examples of how OER and open pedagogy can empower learners in a course. Participants will explore how to locate and evaluate disciplinary OER, discuss the benefits and challenges of incorporating open content into their teaching, and learn tips for designing student-centered open pedagogy projects. This workshop is for UNC faculty and graduate students in all disciplines. The workshop will be held during Open Education Week, March 4-8, 2019.

The presenters will be Jen Mayer, UNC Head of Library Research Services and Stan Trembach, UNC Education Librarian.

The participants will be able to:

  • Learn how to locate and evaluate OER
  • Articulate the challenges and benefits of OER
  • Apply best open pedagogy practices in their own instructional contexts

This session is the fifth in our six-part Researcher Workshop Series for 2018-2019. The final workshop will take place on April 9 (Archives and Special Collections). We hope to see you there!
